Agitos Organisational Capacity Programme in Oceania

8 nations attended a 4 day workshop in Nadi, Fiji, to take the next steps in good governance for Para sports development in Oceania.

An initiative of the Agitos Foundation in partnership with Toyota, the Organisational Capacity Programme workshop was designed to empower National Paralympic Committees in the region with the knowledge, support and inspiration to spread the Paralympic Movement in their countries.

Participants from Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands, Samoa, Tonga, Kiribati and Indonesia learnt key skills and knowledge in critical areas of sports management.  This includes governance, marketing and communication and athlete development.

The workshop was facilitated by educators from the Agitos Foundation.  Governing Board Members from the Australian Paralympic Committee, Paralympics New Zealand and the Oceania Paralympic Committee will support participants to design and run similar workshops with key individuals, sports and stakeholders in each country.

Andrew Bynon, Governing Board Member of the Oceania Paralympic Committee said, "Developing the capacity of National Paralympic Committees will benefit Para sport in Oceania.  We want to see more Para athletes competing in Oceania.  This can only happen when Para sports is well governed and managed and the Organisational Capacity Programme is a positive step in the right direction."
